Website migration help for UK business websites
Your website migration could be about to destroy everything you’ve built
You’ve decided to redesign your website – awesome move! Now you need to think about planning the migration – what happens when you switch over from the old site to the new one?
Because without proper planning, your traffic will tank, your rankings will vanish, and those enquiries you’ve worked years to build up will evaporate overnight.
A beautiful new website is pointless if nobody can find it. And a platform upgrade is worse than useless if it breaks everything that was working.
I help B2B service businesses move, merge, or migrate their websites without losing rankings, traffic, or enquiries. That means mapping every redirect properly, preserving what’s working, and fixing the technical issues before they become disasters that cost you clients.

Questions you may have:

How long does a website migration take?
Basic migrations typically take 4-6 weeks from discovery call to launch. Supported migrations need 6-8 weeks. Bespoke projects depend on complexity - book a call and I'll give you a realistic timeline.
The actual "flipping the switch" part happens in a day, but proper planning takes weeks. Anyone who tells you they can migrate your site in a weekend is either lying or about to destroy your rankings.
What if my web designer/developer says they'll handle the SEO?
Unless your developer specialises in SEO, they probably won't. I've cleaned up after dozens of "we'll sort the redirects later" disasters where "later" meant "after all the traffic disappeared."
I can work alongside your developer (I'll give them the redirect map and technical requirements), or handle the technical implementation myself if they're out of their depth.
Can you rescue a migration that's already gone wrong?
Yes. It's more expensive and time-consuming than doing it right the first time, but it's fixable. Book a discovery call and I'll assess the damage honestly - sometimes it's a few quick fixes, sometimes it's a complete rebuild of your redirect strategy.
Do you guarantee my rankings won't drop?
No, because anyone who guarantees that is lying. Some fluctuation during migration is normal - Google needs time to process the changes and re-index your new URLs.
What I do guarantee is that we'll do everything possible to preserve your rankings, monitor closely for problems, and fix issues immediately if they occur. Most of my migration clients maintain or improve their rankings within 4-6 weeks.
Why can't I just redirect everything to my homepage?
Because Google (and your visitors) will hate you for it. When someone clicks a link to your "Commercial Litigation Services" page and lands on your homepage, they bounce. When Google sees hundreds of URLs all redirecting to the same page, it gets confused about what you actually offer.
Each old URL should redirect to the most relevant new URL. That's what proper URL mapping is for.
What if I'm changing domain names?
Domain migrations are higher risk but completely manageable with proper planning. You'll need either Supported or Bespoke migration depending on your site size and traffic levels. The process is similar but requires more careful monitoring post-launch.
Can you work with my CMS (WordPress/Wix/Squarespace/Shopify)?
Yes. I've migrated sites built on pretty much every platform. As long as I can access your site and implement redirects (either directly or through your developer), we can handle it.
My site's on WordPress - can't I just use a plugin?
Plugins can help with some technical tasks, but they won't create your URL map, decide what content to preserve, or monitor your rankings post-launch. They're tools, not strategy.
For Basic migrations, a good redirect plugin might be fine for implementation. For anything more complex, you need proper planning and monitoring that no plugin can provide.
What happens if something goes wrong after launch?
I monitor your site closely post-launch (4 weeks for Basic, 8 weeks for Supported, 3 months for Bespoke). If issues appear, I fix them immediately - not "when I have time to gett around to it."
All packages include emergency support during and after migration. Your business can't wait for "normal office hours" when your contact form's broken.
I'm rebranding - does that change anything?
Yes. Rebranding migrations need extra care because you're not just moving URLs, you're changing how Google understands your business. This usually requires Supported or Bespoke migration to handle the additional complexity.
Can I do the migration myself with your guidance?
For very small, simple sites (under 20 pages), possibly. But honestly, if you're asking this question, you probably shouldn't risk it. The cost of getting it wrong far exceeds the cost of Basic migration.
I've seen too many DIY migrations turn into expensive rescue projects to recommend going it alone unless your site is tiny and your traffic is minimal.
Do you work with businesses outside the UK?
Yes, as long as you're targeting English-speaking markets and I can access your website and hosting setup. Most of my migration clients are UK-based, but the technical process works anywhere.
How do I get started?
Book a discovery call. We'll discuss your migration plans, I'll assess your site, and tell you honestly which package you need (or whether you can handle it yourself). No pressure, no sales pitch - just a boatload of straight answers about what your site needs.
I’ve managed hundreds of website migrations over three decades. I’ve seen every possible disaster – from developers who thought redirects could “wait until later” to complete domain moves that lost years of rankings overnight.
And I’ve fixed all of them. Eventually.
What keeps clients coming back isn’t just that their traffic survived the migration – it’s that their enquiries kept coming through. The phone calls and form submissions from people ready to buy, not the panicked emails about why a page has disappeared overnight.
A website migration done properly preserves what you’ve built. Done badly, it’s like burning your business to the ground and wondering why customers can’t find you anymore.
If you’re planning a redesign, platform move, or domain change, book a discovery call. I’ll look at your current site, tell you honestly what the risks are, and which package makes sense for your situation.
Sometimes I’ll tell you that you can handle Basic yourself with my checklist and a little hand holding. Maybe I’ll tell you that your site’s too complex for anything less than Bespoke. But if we’re a good fit, I’d love to make sure your migration doesn’t become a cautionary tale.

How we work together:

Discovery call (30 minutes, free) We talk about your migration plans, what could go wrong, and whether we’re a good fit. I’ll ask about your current site, why you’re moving, and what you’ve already sorted (if anything).
Site audit and migration strategy (included in your package) Once you’ve chosen a package, I audit your current site properly. Every URL, every backlink, every bit of technical setup that needs preserving. Then I create a migration plan tailored to your specific situation – not a generic checklist.
Pre-migration preparation URL mapping, redirect strategy, technical preservation, staging site testing – all the boring but critical stuff that stops your traffic from tanking. You’ll get regular updates and a clear timeline for what happens when.
Migration day coordination Whether I’m implementing the redirects myself or working with your developer, I’m available when things go live. Because something always needs tweaking, and “we’ll sort it Monday” isn’t an option when your site’s bleeding traffic.
Post-migration monitoring and fixes After launch, I monitor rankings, traffic, and errors. If something’s broken, we fix it immediately – not “down the line.” You’ll get regular reports showing what’s working and what needs attention.
