How to add a user to your Google Search Console

A pink paper with white text saying how to add a user to your google search console

If you’re an SEO training client of mine, one of the first things I ask you to do before we have our 1:1 session is to add me to your Google Search Console account,

Here’s a quick and dirty blog post to tell you how to do it.

Adding a user to your Google Search Console

1) First, navigate to Google Search Console – you’re probably logged in already, but if not, log in to your Google account.

2) On the left, scroll down until you see ‘settings’

3) Once in settings, click on ‘Users and permissions’.

4) Once you click on this it will show you who already has access to your Google Search account – this is your chance to remove anyone who doesn’t belong there!

5) Click on ‘ADD USER’

6) The person you are adding needs to have a Google email account. In my case this is nikkipilk@gmail.com and you should add that. Double check that you have the correct email address for the person you want to add. Enter the email address, then click add.

Once you have done this, the new user should show as a ‘full’ user. In most cases this is enough access for whatever they need to do. If you are working with me for SEO Training, I just need to be able to see the account and share my screen with you on calls, and if you are working with me on SEO consulting, then I need to be able to add your GSC into some of the tools I use to analyse stats and results. Rest assured that I can’t do anything dodgy with ‘full’ permission, nor would I want to.

When you’ve added the person, drop them an email to let them know, as Google doesn’t always tell them.
