SEO Build Pack for web designers
Get the SEO right while you build. Not after.
Seven pieces you use on every project so the sites you hand over have their SEO foundations right from day one. Written by someone who’s spent 30 years fixing sites after the designer’s gone home, and would quite like to stop.
Why web designers get blamed for SEO they never agreed to do
You quoted for a website. The client heard “a website that ranks”. Three months after launch they’re not on page one, and somehow that’s your fault.
Meanwhile whoever picks up the SEO afterwards spends the first month undoing the build: hidden layout variants Google can read, nav coded as headings, a sitemap full of tag pages, a staging noindex nobody removed, forty old URLs that now 404. None of it was on purpose. All of it was avoidable.
The pages nobody searches for
A gorgeous site with no page for the thing the client sells most.
The logo is the H1
Google reads the brand name as the page headline on every page.
Staging leaks into live
Noindex still on, or the canonical pointing at the staging domain.
Redirects that never happened
The old site ranked. The new one starts from zero.
Tag pages in the sitemap
Two hundred junk URLs competing with the ten that matter.
Schema copied from a template
Someone else’s business name in the structured data.
What’s in the SEO Build Pack
Read this first
What SEO is and isn’t your job, and how to have the “is SEO included?” conversation at quote stage, not launch.
The client SEO brief
The questions to ask before you design anything, so the pages match what people search for.
The page plan
One block per page: search, H1, meta title tag, description, links, CTA. With a worked example.
The build checklist
Headings, images, speed, URLs, schema and template content. Get it right once and every page inherits it.
The launch checklist
The week before, launch day and the week after. The stuff that ruins good builds.
The redirect map
The rule that every old URL gets a home, and a spreadsheet to do it in.
The handover document
A plain-English PDF you give the client with your logo on. Stops the “why aren’t we ranking” call.
The client questions cheat sheet
Ten things clients ask designers about SEO, with a straight answer to each.
Each piece as its own PDF
Seven files, numbered. Print the ones you need, keep the rest open, copy the templates for every job.
SEO for web designers is a scope problem, not a skills problem
Nobody tells you this bit. You don’t need to learn SEO. You need to know where your job ends, do that bit properly, and say so out loud before the money changes hands.
- Quote with confidence about what’s included and what isn’t
- Stop losing a day per project to “quick SEO fixes” after launch
- Hand over a site an SEO can work with instead of rebuild
- Refer the ongoing work out without looking like you’re dodging it
- Never get caught out by “should I pay for a GEO expert?” again
Use the SEO Build Pack on your next project
It’s not a course. Nobody’s watching six hours of video. Open it on the next build and work through it.

Is this a course?
No. It’s a set of documents you use on real projects. There’s a short read-first piece and the rest is checklists, templates and a client handover doc.
Do I need to know SEO already?
No. If you know what an H1 and a sitemap are, you’ve got enough. The pack tells you what to do, not the theory behind it.
Which platforms does it cover?
All of them. It’s about what the finished site needs to have, not how to click it in a particular builder.
Can I put my own branding on it?
On the handover document, yes, that’s what it’s for. The rest is for your use, not for passing on.
Will this get my clients ranking?
It’ll get them a site that can rank. Ranking is the ongoing bit, and the pack tells you how to explain that difference so it stops being your problem.
What if I sell SEO as an add-on?
Fine. The pack makes the foundations part of your build properly. For the ongoing part, either partner with an SEO or send them my way. I don’t poach designers’ clients.
