Free SEO email course for copywriters, content creators and website owners
One email a week. Simple SEO you can do. There will be homework.
Are you a copywriter who wants easy-to-implement SEO ideas for yourself or your clients? A content creator who wants to do your own SEO rather than pay someone else to do it? A website owner who wants to know what SEO is and how it can help your website?
Sign up to the SEO for Copywriters weekly email series, where you’ll receive simple, actionable SEO ideas, hints and tips that won’t take forever to do but will improve your website, and your Google positions.
I won’t spam you repeatedly with offers of $99 backlink packages, sell your email to a Saudi Prince who wants to send you a million pounds, or sign you up to a ton of Viagra offers that mean your inbox would make Mata Hari blush.
Why most SEO advice is useless if you write for a living
You can write. That’s not the problem. The problem is that everything you’ve read about SEO was written for developers, agencies or people selling a tool, and none of it tells you what to do on a Tuesday afternoon with a page that isn’t ranking.
Advice written for tech people
Crawl budgets, canonicals, log file analysis. Interesting, possibly. Useful when you’ve got a service page to write by Friday, no.
“Stuff it with phrases” nonsense
The advice that makes your writing worse. You already know it’s wrong. You just don’t know what to do instead.
Courses that cost a fortune
£2,000 for a course to find out whether SEO is something you want to learn is a big ask when you’re not sure yet.
Too much, all at once
A 40-module course you buy in January and open in March. Nobody learns like that. Small and weekly sticks.
Nobody explains why
“Add a meta description” is an instruction. Knowing what it does and when it matters is the bit that lets you make your own decisions.
Clients asking questions you can’t answer
“Will this rank?” and “can you do the SEO too?” are questions worth money. Right now you’re changing the subject.
What the SEO for copywriters email course covers
One topic a week, explained in plain English, with something to go and do on your own website before the next email lands.
What people are searching for
Why it matters, fab ways to find out what your customers type into Google, and even better ways to use it in your writing.
On-page SEO
How there’s more to on-page SEO than header tags and percentages, and what to do with a page so Google understands it.
Meta descriptions
Because they matter more than people will lead you to believe, and copywriters are the ones who should be writing them.
Content
Ways to be a little more clever and make the most of everything you write, so one piece of work does more than one job.
Technical SEO
Simple things that people think are too difficult, but could make a big difference to your website. No code required.
Homework
Every email ends with a task. Small, specific, doable in an hour. Do them and your website will be better by the end of the series.
Thursdays
One email a week, on a Thursday. Enough time to do the homework, not enough to forget what you learned.
Plain English
Written by someone who writes for a living, for people who write for a living. No jargon, no tech talk, no robot voice.
Free
Costs your email address. If you get to the end and want more, there’s a course and a programme. If you don’t, you’ve still learned SEO.
A few weeks of emails and you’ll know more SEO than most of your clients
That’s a low bar, admittedly. But it’s the bar that lets you add SEO to your services, answer the “will this rank?” question with confidence, and stop paying someone else to do the bits you could do yourself.
- Understand what your customers are searching for and write for it
- Know what to do to a page before you hit publish
- Write meta descriptions that get the click
- Stop being scared of the word “technical”
- A better website by the end of the series, if you do the homework
- Enough SEO to sell it, if you’re a copywriter who wants to
Who the free SEO email course is for
It says copywriters on the tin, but it’s for anyone who writes for the web and wants their writing to be found. If you’d rather someone did your SEO for you, that’s fine too, and my SEO services are over there. This course is for people who want to understand it, whether or not they ever do it themselves.
Why learn SEO from me
I’ve been doing this for 30 years
Since before Google existed, when getting to number one was quick and easy because most of the search engines hadn’t been invented yet. I’ve seen every algorithm change, every trend and every dodgy tactic that promised instant results. I know what works, what’s a waste of your time, and how to tell the difference.
I write for a living too
Most SEO people can’t write and most copywriters don’t understand search. I do both, which is why this course doesn’t ask you to write worse. It shows you how to point the writing you already do at the searches your clients are making.
I’ve taught a lot of copywriters
Through this course, the non-wanky SEO course and the Ascend programme. Some of them now sell SEO copywriting and charge more for it. Some just stopped being scared of it. Both count.
What people say about learning SEO with Nikki
Course students, clients and people whose sites I’ve fixed. Several of them write for a living.
Want the whole thing, not one email a week?
The free emails are the starter. The non-wanky SEO course is the full meal, and the Ascend programme is for copywriters who want to sell SEO to their clients with me looking over their shoulder. Do the free course first. You’ll know by the end which one, if either, you want.
