Don’t presume that everyone who visits your website comes in via the homepage.
I see this mistake all the time – you expect that people will view your website as you designed it, starting at the homepage and walking through a logical process – but website traffic doesn’t work like that.
- I may come to your website through one of your service pages or a blog post that has come up in a Google – search.
- I might have been sent a link to a specific page by a friend.
- I could have followed a link on your social media that links to a specific offer or deal.
In all 3 of those cases, there’s every chance I won’t even see your homepage.
Start thinking of every page of your site as a potential entry page, and consider how it looks to both search engines and visitors.
Does it tell me what you do and what your values are?
Does it walk me through the process you want me to follow to book an appointment or order something from you?
Or does it leave me wondering what I should do next because I’m not quite sure how I ended up here in the first place?
Optimisation isn’t just for the front page of your website.
