I can’t say this much louder and many more times than I already have – PLEASE don’t rely on SEO plugins to make your SEO perfect.
They’re a good guide.
They’re a nice basic checklist.
They’re a help, especially when you’re starting out.
But blindly following their recommendations when you haven’t taken the time to learn the basics of SEO puts you on track for major disappointment.
Think about it: if site A and site B are identical in every way and have the same target keyphrase and both website owners do everything that the plugin tells them to, how can they BOTH be #1 on any search engine?
SEO isn’t one size fits all, and SEO plugins have to cater to the lowest common denominator, which is why you need to have a basic understanding of SEO before you start relying on them.
A green smiley face is NOT SEO.
